The Daily Blog (Jan 21) - Elliott

This morning we arrived to the classroom and we took attendance. After attendance was taken, Mr. McMurray asked Ian to take the attendance packet to the office.

After that, half of the class went to the Computer Lab. We were supposed to take our Science test in the computer lab. Mr. McMurray decided that the class needed to review the material again before we took the test.

When we arrived at the Computer Lab, Mrs. Dunn wasn’t there but we saw Mrs. Bremer, the librarian, reading a book to a class. Mrs. Bremer realized that the computer group was outside waiting for Mrs. Dunn to open the door. The students didn’t realize Mrs. Dunn wasn’t there, so Mrs. Bremer opened the door for us. She told us that Mrs. Dunn wasn’t here today. Mrs. Bremer told the class that they could have free choice in the Computer Lab.

So Mrs. Bremer went back to reading her book to the class and checked on us every five to ten minutes. When our time was up we went back to our classroom. While back in class, Mr. McMurray instructed some of us to work on our decimal worksheet while others worked in their Literature Circles with him.

The first group was Esperanza Rising and then Crispin. After that it was the Freedom Train, Guns for General Washington and Stone Fox. After the Literature Circles were finished it was time for recess. It was too wet outside so we came back into the classroom and watched the movie Finding Nemo.

When we were done with recess, Mr. McMurray assigned books for the class biography report. Mr. McMurray then read a book to us titled Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry. The next thing I knew was that it was time for lunch!

When lunch was finished, we went to recess. It was so wet outside that we again came back into the classroom and watched The Hunchback of Notre Dame. When recess was finished, the class started talking about a picture to draw for our Student Council fundraiser to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake. Then Mr. McMurray wrote our homework assignments on the board.

At the end of our day, other 5th grade students visited our classroom to practice our reading skills in Language Arts Centeres. It was now 2:50PM so Mr. McMurray excused the class and we were done for the day.

It was another great day with Mr. McMurray in Room 16!
