The Daily Blog (Oct 28) - Eric

Today we had our Red Ribbon Week flag assembly and we had our poetry slam. Claire , Kailani, Rada, Angelica Julia, Krystalina, and Kannen read their poems at the assembly. I thought they all did a good job reading the poems.

After the assembly our class watched a video called Natural High 4. The video was about not using drugs and finding your own "natural high." The video was sad because it was about a man who lost his two brothers because one smoked and the other died as well. But it was inspiring because it reminded us of the different ways we have fun in life without drugs. So Mr. McMurray had us begin working on our classroom Red Ribbon Week poster which will be a quilt featuring all 32 of our "natural high" pictures.

Next we had a math lesson on mixed numbers, followed by recess. It was very windy during recess. During flag football, the Stanford team defeated the Stealers team, 15-6.

When we got back inside the classroom we continued our math lesson on mixed numbers. We learned how to change a mixed number to an improper fraction and back again. We practiced examples on the white board and a few students came forward to share their work as well.

After the math lesson on fractions we watched another video about European explorers. I found Ferdinand Magellan the most interesting because he attempted a voyage around the world. Magellan actually died in the Phillipines in a war with Indians, but his crew completed the first circumnavigation of the globe.

Before we left for the day, Mr. McMurray assigned us our homework and the bell rang.
