The Daily Blog (Oct 26) - Madison

First we welcomed our new student, Andres, in our class. Then Eric, G’Ana, Ondray and Brenda shared about their weekend. The rest of us told our neighbors about our weekends. Then some of us had to go on the computers.

We talked about weather and trying to name weather tools. Mr. McMurray handed out new Red Ribbon Week bookmarks. He then told us about the Daily Exercises. Ondray read about the Robinson Projection Map on our Daily Geography. Mr. McMurray compared the map in the classroom with this map in our packet. They were the same style. Then we had to work in our packet independently.

Mr. McMurray explained how to do the language arts in our packet. Now we are correcting our work. Now we are moving on to Math. Mr. McMurray explained the difference between multiples and factors. Next, we corrected Language Arts.

Then we worked on our Explorer Report. While we worked on our Explorer Report, we turned in our weekend homework.

When the band students returned, we learned a lesson about narrative writing. Our narrative writing assignment is about Halloween. Mr. McMurray talked about what we should have in our essay. He explained to us what we are doing for the rest of the day. Mr. McMurray reminded all of us what to do about our essay. After recess, we had 30 minutes to start our essay.

Then we worked on Social Studies. We reviewed Lesson 1 about why European countries tried to find new routes to Asia and the beginning of exploration in the New World.

Mr. McMurray showed us a Power Point presentaion on Lesson 2 which was all about the explorers and what they did. We learned vocabulary words including circumnavigation, emperor, and cartographer, which is a person who makes maps or charts. We compared maps from now and then. Mr. McMurray corrected the 4 questions we had for homework over the weekend in Lesson 2 during the lesson.

After lunch, we went to P.E. with Mrs. Pane and she gave us an "Awesome" for behaving so well with her! We came back from PE and worked on the math Problem of the Day which had to do with fractions. We then worked on a worksheet in our Problem Solving book. Mr. McMurray taught us how to simplify fractions using a two step method. First, you have to start with prime factorization of the numerator and denominator. Then, you put the common prime factors together if there are any and take the product. Or if they only have a single common prime factor, that's the GCF, or greatest common factor. We remembered how to do prime factorization from our last chapter.

At the end of the day, Mr. McMurray gave us our homework and we were out the door.
