Hi,
I’m Anna, your Roving Reporter for Monday, December 5, 2011. We kicked off
today with adding fractions for our warm-ups.
After,
two men then came into class and delivered a huge box. What’s inside of it?
That will later be revealed.
We
corrected the warm-ups, and then learned how to divide fractions in our math
notebooks. Mr. McMurray gave the class practice problems on the math and the
whole class yelled, “NOOOO!!!”
Just
after, the first group came back from the library. Right then, the whole class
went to P.E., where they square-danced and played a short game of Air Raid.
Right
after, the second group went to the library. When the students came back into
class… they had MORE MATH awaiting them.
At
10:30 the 5th graders all went to snack recess. Upon returning to
class, Mr. McMurray told us about his Sharks’ tickets victory. Congratulations
Mr. McMurray!!!
Next
the kids who wanted to take the Chapter 9 (Add and Subtract Mixed Numbers) retake
test took it, while the others did something silently at their desks.
When
all the students finished, Mr. McMurray read the class a Pourquoi tale about
the Tlingit people called “Raven and the Tides.” A Pourquoi tale uses animals
with human characteristics to tell about how something – the tides, in this
case – came to be.
At
about 10 after 12, Room 16 took their spelling pre-test. Upon learning our new
spelling words we did a language arts page on them. Finally, at 12:30, we went
to lunch.
With
about 2 hours to spare we started sharing our explorer reports, starting with my
group, which presented Marco Polo and today we ended with Columbus.
At
the end of the day Mr. McMurray assigned the class their homework. We have
division of fractions in our workbook on page EW 63, and mental math with
adding and subtracting decimals on page PW 69, and a grammar lesson on singular
and plural nouns in the Grammar Practice Workbook on pg. 42.
Finally,
at 2:50, the 5th grade students of Room 16 went home!
I’m
Anna Dhont, and I’ve got the sass from the class!
