The Daily Blog - Blaike

Today we started with warms-ups which included cursive practice, then language arts.

We moved into math and did long division. Following math we went to P.E. and ran three-fourths of a mile and played soccer. Mrs. Pane gave us our first "Awesome" report and Mr. McMurray promised us an outdoor game on Thursday afternoon if we get another "Awesome" later this week.

After P.E. we went to recess. Back in class we began our new story Nellie Bly. Mr. McMurray asked us to think about why some people fight against injustice when it does not directly affect them. This started a class discussion. We wrote down our answers and then volunteers shared their responses. Mostly we felt it was because people want to make sure that others are treated fairly and it is often because people care about others.

Following this discussion Mr. McMurray read a biography about an author, Jules Verne, who wrote Around the World in Eighty Days. We discussed the character motives that came up in the biography through Jules' traits, actions, and thoughts. And then Mr. McMurray had some of us read a passage about Annie Bell which involved this week's vocabulary words. The other half of the class - my half - read about Nellie Bly and how she became a journalist.

Then we went to lunch then recess. We came back to class and worked on our Social Studies mobiles. Mr. McMurray read another chapter from I.Q. to us while we worked. Just about everybody finished up with their mobiles project and by 2:45, Mr. McMurray was ready for us to take down our homework assignments and prepare for dismissal. It was a good day!
