The Daily Blog (May 19) - Julia

When we arrived in the classroom, we learned that today’s Teacher Appreciation gift for Mr. McMurray was a couple of packs of Diet Coke (because Mr. McMurray loves Diet Coke)!

Then, we jumped right into math. First, we reviewed our math homework and worked on our packets a little bit. We went over with the class about how to find the volume and surface area of three-dimensional shapes. Tonight’s homework was also about finding volume.

After math, Mr. McMurray showed us a “magic trick.” He made a roll of masking tape “disappear.”

Around 9:15 a.m., we had an assembly with a special effects person, Energetic Rick, who taught us about air pressure, chemicals and a fun Halloween party. He demonstrated nitro cellulose paper and how it burns up really fast so it looks like something is on fire, but not for long. It is used by magicians and sometimes called “flash paper” and in a lot of movies and television because it is safer for the actors. We went to recess after the assembly.

We reviewed our spelling homework after recess. Then we went over our Theme Skills test. At around 11:30 am, we had our school flag assembly and Ms. Garcia picked the Proctor Pride points. G’ana won a large frisbee and Mr. McMurray told her to keep it in the classroom because we might play Ultimate Frisbee later this week. Then, the day was over and we got our homework assignments, put our chairs on top of our desks, and left school.
