The Daily Blog (April 21) - Andres

Today was a short day. We started off the morning correcting our math homework. We had to identify horizontal and vertical lines, intersecting and perpendicular lines, and an ordered pair. We're beginning a new math chapter which is about the coordinate plane.

Mr. McMurray then had us work in our math packets on an activity with ordered pairs n a coordinate grid. We had to identify the location on the grid based on a description, and we had to write ordered pairs by finding the points on the coordinate grid. For example, the ordered pair (3,2) is located three units to the right of the origin (0,0) and two units up.

After we completed this activity, Mr. McMurray instructed us to work with our 9 o'clock partners on a challenging activity that involved identifying ordered pairs on a coordinate plane and writing them down. There were 11 problems total, and Mr. McMurray was offering $22 McMurray Bucks for all partners that got every problem correct. It was rather challenging, though, and Mr. McMurray walked us through the activity as a wrap-up by showing us the solution on the overhead projector.

We concluded today's activity by learning the first part of graphing equations which will be continued when we get back to our math lesson in the morning tomorrow.

Then we had indoor recess and watched the movie “Cars.

Mr. McMurray introduced a special Life Science activity to the class after recess. It will involve a diagram of one of the major body systems, or a part of one of those systems. Our choices were the respiratory system, circulatory system, digestive system, and urinary system. The specific parts we could choose from include the heart, stomach, and air sacs. The class president, Ondrary, drew names and we got to pick what we wanted to draw. Then, Mr. McMurray instructed us where to find the picture in the science book and gave us paper to get started. He's expecting a very neat, organized drawing with labels for each of the parts.

At the end of the day we discussed our homework for tonight. We reviewed the chapters we need to have read for tomorrow's Literature Circle activity. We also double-checked the jobs that we have to do for our own group tomorrow. Before we were dismissed, Mr. McMurray had us clean up around our desk area and stack our chairs. The day was over at 12:00 noon.
