The Daily Blog (March 16) - Eric

Today in the morning Mr. McMurray talked about subtracting integers and we did some work sheets in our math packet.

To do this, Mr. McMurray partnered us up with a neighbor and gave us a baggy of 25 red-and-yellow counters. We used the counters to model a couple of problems subtracting integers, such as -3 - +4 = -7. We learned that when you are subtracting positive integers, you are really adding more negative integers, and using the counters helped us build that understanding.

Later we went to the Science Lab where we learned about plants and looked a celery and cauliflower plant in a microscope and recorded our observations. We learned more about the xylem and phloem and how they work in transporting materials through plants.

When we got back from the Science Lab we watched a video called "Plant Life in Action." It described plant parts and their structure. After that we watched the video the class got with their science partners and wrote what we are doing on our Science Fair projects.

At 12:30 we went to lunch. We read the rest of Yang the Second and Her Secret Admirers in our reading books. Mr. McMurray also corrected last night's spelling homework and vocabulary activity with us on prefixes.

After we read the book we got with our 6 o'clock partners and wrote in our social studies packet for a flow chart activity we'll be doing on the events leading to the Revolutionary War. We did that for 10 minutes. After that we wrote down our homework and went home.
