The Daily Blog (Sept 30) - Tommy

Hi! My name is Tommy. I am your Roving Reporter for today, Wednesday, September 30, 2009.

We started our day at the Flag Salute on the lower playground this morning as school started. Ms. Garcia, our principal, introduced our new Fall Student Council officers for our school: Molly is the President; Daniel is the Vice President; another Daniel is the Secretary; and Patrick is the Treasurer. They spoke to the whole school about our next two events. This Friday their will be a potluck welcoming all families back to school and our Walk-a-Thon that will be held next Wednesday.

We headed to our classroom at 8:45 am to start our Daily exercises of geography, math and language arts. Then we started correcting last night’s homework and did the Problem of the Day for math. Next, we did an estimate for division worksheet, which I thought was easy.

Then came one of my favorite parts of the day: RECESS!!! We all went up to the upper playground and it seemed that everyone was having fun. Some of the kids were playing flag football, others were playing on the bars, or just having fun with their friends.

When we got back from recess, we continued the rough draft of our class essay about the best family pet. We’re chose to write the same thing for this first essay. Mr. McMurray chose Rottweiler dogs. My thoughts on a Rottweiler dog are that they are a large breed that eats a lot but can be a loving family dog. You really need to have a big yard to enjoy these animals.

After everyone finished with the essay we did our Social Studies. We are learning about Native Americans. Right now my group is in the Great Plains which are parts of Wyoming, Montana, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, sections of Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, North and South Dakota.

I was able to visit two of the states that are a part of the Great Plains this past summer on my journey to Yellowstone National Park and was able to see buffalo up close. So I think this part of Social Studies is going to be a lot of fun.

Then we talked about what we had to do for our homework assignment tonight and school ended for the day.
