Fine Arts Mini-Experience

This morning was our first FAME (Fine Arts Mini-Experience) lesson of the year. Our primary instructor was Mrs. Thompson, and today the students in Room 16 learned all about watercolor. Mrs. Thompson took the class step-by-step through a watercolor creation of their very own of a snowy forest scene.

The students LOVED the lesson and their modern art masterpieces will be coming home as special holiday gifts to you!

Thank you, Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Lewis for your terrific lesson this morning. We are so privileged to have you as a special part of the class! We look forward to our next FAME lesson in 2012.

-Mr. McMurray

Mrs. Thompson introduces the art of watercolor.

Tables are prepped ahead of time in
anticipation of our class watercolor project.

This special painting was the subject of discussion
regarding watercolor techniques.

This is the model that Mrs. Thompson
provided. Each student created a similar
piece following her directions.

After painting the sky blue above the horizon line,
students painted a mountain line across the page separating
the sky from the snow and forest.

Following the mountains, students painted streaks
of a snowy landscape and then a large tree on the
lower right-hand side of the paper.

We learned how to "dab" our paintbrushes
and mix colors in order to get the picture just right.

The final touch was a flick of snow across the
painting that Mrs. Thompson handled to avoid
any final problems or possible touch-ups.
