ESTIMATING SUMS & DIFFERENCES (Homework Help!)
We began this morning on the playground at our school wide flag salute assembly. Ms. Garcia welcomed us and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Afterwards, I made an announcement with Mrs. Machado about Student Council and Noon League Football. There is a mandatory meeting after school this Friday for all students interested in running for office.
When we returned to class, everyone began by working on our Daily Exercises packet. All but one student completed last night's homework assignment which prevented us from starting our Paper Clip Chain. Hopefully tonight will be more successful and maybe we can add to our Paper Clip Chain tomorrow morning!
Before our recess break, we worked with a partner on a science activity. We reviewed our first lesson on the ocean and hydrosphere.
After recess, we opened up our math books and worked on estimating sums and differences. I embedded a little refresher video up above for assistance on tonight's homework assignment. We completed a few selected problems from the math textbook and had a wrap up together in class before I assigned the homework for tonight.
For homework, I distributed the Earthquake Terror packets and assigned page 9 for tonight. It's a word sort for our first spelling list that focuses on short vowels. Next Wednesday will be our first spelling test. The other two homework assignments were from science (draw the water cycle and list a way or two to conserve water) and math (estimate sums and differences, RW4).
We began work on a special project which I cannot share at this point because I am hoping it will be ready for viewing tomorrow at Back-to-School Night! By 12 o'clock we were ready to leave for the day. Once again, our Quiet Seat recipient was absent. However, I was able to reward five students with $1 McMurray Buck because the line leaders (Brandon and Angelica) observed them exhibiting good behavior in line this morning.
Until tomorrow~
